60kg of pure beauty-‘Rhea’ the St.Bernard & Bernese mix-who enjoys the company of 26 cats
My name is Rhea & I’m a 5yr old Bernese & St.Bernard gal with 60kg behind me & possibly a new home ahead of me. I was kept by a cruel human locked in a room. He mistreated me & at some point I found myself abandoned in a strange place that doesn’t like small dogs let alone big ones. I was afraid & confused & surrounded by prejudicial people. I was under threat. Then they phoned the municipality pound to take me away so they didn’t have to look at me. At this juncture my ‘owner’ tried to reclaim me though luckily the shelter manager felt sorry for my situation as she knew he had been unkind to me. She brought my plight to the attention of a compassionate, animal loving couple who have provided a home & protection ever since. They agreed for the charitable organisation Break the Chains to try to find a home for me. This is what I have to offer-
I’m, as you can see, a lover of walks & content to amble at your pace or pick up a a-bit of speed if I’m feeling nimble & playful. I also share my walks with other big dogs both male & female & I’m at ease in the company of my canine friends. I share my life with 26 cats, men, women & lots of other dogs. I like doing Fosbury flops in the grass, lots of affection, spooning & also possess an independent air. In return for your dedication to me I offer you my loyalty & faithfulness. If a dog is vocal towards me with a growl for example I can translate this too sensitively & take it to heart. If you look at my videos I’m sure you’ll agree that my nature is a remarkably good one when I’m so laid back with other large dogs and many many cats. I’m not easily intimidated so that means I will react back. I respond according to my intelligence & emotions just as you do. I am not an aggressive dog though it doesn’t mean I can’t show it if I’m challenged & I will hold the offence in my memory. A parent doesn’t need to have an aggressive nature to show it if her child is threatened. It’s important that any owner knows the vital difference with any pet they own. I am house proud, good outdoors & I’ve been described as ‘stunning’.
What I’m looking for:- I will need a specialised individual for my specialised size & breed. What I mean by that is that I am suited to people who understand dog
language so I can be understood. Let me put it this way- you wouldn’t put a learner driver in charge of a tank. I am that tank - that ‘Hummer’- & there is a huge difference between crashing an elite vehicle & crashing with a fiat panda. It’s not that my responses, reactions or nature are any different than a tea cup chihuahuas- it’s that the chihuahua has 4kg to back it up & I’ve got 60kg. I’m not trying to cause damage and never have - but I look like I can and could so I don’t need a learner driver. If you’re experienced you will already know all this. I need a kind leader that I can lovingly follow- who will protect me. You will be active, maybe have other dogs, will know how to introduce me to new pack members whether cats, dogs or a tortoise & you will not be leaving me home alone because it’s company & companionship I’m looking for & used to. Perhaps you live on acres of land in a rural setting. I already have a home that’s caring for me. I’ve been rescued & I’m loved- so no one anticipates that I’ll be going from a good situation to one that isn’t perfect for me.

Rheas rescuers in their words:-
“Rhea should be 5 years old. The owner said she was 4 when we got her and she is been here for one year. She is saint bernard or very close mix. Rhea was very afraid when we got her she growing for few days then she started trusting me and later my boyfriend. She remember all the cats that were here before her and know they are her cats. With new cats i have to introduce her properly. She is good with most of the dogs but if somebody barks or growls at her she sometimes takes this very personally and may react aggressively to that dog. She hates one of the dogs
here for that reason. On a walk when she sees another dog again she is reacting -i will video that. And the problem is she is so big and im afraid if something happened - something bad would happen to her. Here the condition are not great but she is safe.
She was runing around a village, people call the municipality shelter. They caught her with a dart and took her in. Then the owner did show put he told the manager that he keep her in apartment lock in a room. She did suspect he miss treated her so she didnt give her back. She liked the dog and ask me to help to find her a home and wanted her out of the shelter. So we took her.”
If you’re the right owner for Rhea none of the above will phase you
