Description
Name: Maverick
Age: 2/4 years
Species: Crested Gecko
Temp: 23 C - 28 C
Humidity: 70 - 90 %
History/Origins - Maverick was purchased from a reptile shop as my first ever reptile and he was an amazing fit - he has no health issues and hasn't even dropped his tail despite his tendency to overeact. Maverick has always been slight of stature and I believe him to be the runt - so his size is smaller than the average gecko. Despite his slighter size Mavs is still thriving - albeit his eating habits need some work but he's doing well.
Diet - Mavs is hesitant to eat bugs but he doese love wax worms, though he needs to eat crickets and very small dubais if possible. Maverick has a fruit and bug powder and supplements that when mixed make a baby food of sorts for him. He can have mushed fruits as an alternative or treat but they must be safe and they must be thoroughly mushed to prevent choking.
Temperament - Maverick is somewhat of a nervous gecko yet he is very loving and adoring once uve bonded with him. He is handeable though after a half hour of handling he normally gets a bit jumpy and restless. He has never bitten or scratched and has only jumped away when startled - he's friendly and a great family pet that needs patience and a calm hand.
Sites/Information - Reasearching for reptiles can be tricky at times due to the multiple different sites and opinions within the reptile community so I'm going to suggest some content that I've found helpful.
SwellReptiles - SR is both a great site to learn and garner advice and a respected buisness for resources - I'd rate them well personally.
Wickens Wicked Reptiles - A YouTube content creator who has multiple reptiles, he's easygoing and fun to watch.
The Spruce Pets - I adore this sight as its so easy to navigate and has some of the best information in my opinion.
Other websites will be just as handy - and when in a rush a quick question to just Google in general is helpful but always double check and combine research/resources.
Enclosure - Mavericks enclosure and set up originally cost us around £700 and it's still very well kept and recently was professionally cleaned. It has an amazing drainage layer and it's bioactive with fake plants and branches Maverick loves. A LED light to keep plants alive and a UVB light provide optimal lighting and his heater and thermostat are all efficient. The only thing needed would be food and if wished new plants.
