Description

Buddy is our 3yr old dacshund. He lives with two other female dogs and teenage children along with younger children. Buddy is a typical dachshund and will bark at other dogs on walks but soon calms and will bark at a bird in the garden. He is generally a calm dog but can get anxious when strangers come in the house, he will bark at them and stay in his bed. He will calm and settle after a while. He walks well on his lead on solo walks and doesn’t pull and won’t leave your side. He will pull more when walking with other dogs to get in front. He gets on with other dogs and people. Buddy has more energy than the girls and needs a walk every day. He craves attention and just wants one to one time and cuddles on the settee as much as he can. We have had buddy since he was 12 weeks old. It will be very sad to see him go but we are being selfish keeping him if I can find him a home that can give him all the attention he wants, needs and deserves. We have a very busy house with two teenagers and two 3 and under and another on the way so we think Buddy will be happier either a solo dog or with another with a family or single person that can give him all the attention he deserves. He is very much a dog that craves and loves as much affection as he can get. Fully house trained and doesn’t chew anything he shouldn’t

Pros

Extremely affectionate and loyal little dogs
Very intelligent Dachshunds learn quickly and know how to please
Fun-loving and playful by nature
Energetic and feisty Dachshunds like to be kept entertained

Cons

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own
Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints
They are prone to putting on too much weight if not given enough daily exercise
The breed is known to suffer from quite a few health concerns so vet bills can be high and why pet insurance is so important for anyone owning a Dachshund
