Description

Leo is just over a year old. He's a standard long-haired dachshund and honestly the sweetest-natured dog we've ever known. He's remarkably quiet for the breed, barely a barker at all, which surprises everyone who meets him. He follows you from room to room just to be near you, and he's wonderfully gentle and compassionate with other dogs. Despite being young, he's been through training with several different trainers and it shows. He's very well-behaved and reliable both on and off leash. He's also thoroughly worldly: he's traveled to Costa Rica, across the States, and beyond, and he's genuinely the easiest travel companion you could ask for... calm in transit, unbothered by new places, and settled wherever he lands. (He is not neutered) Please know this isn't a decision we've come to lightly. We're relocating to New York City, and both my husband and I will be working full days, every day. Leo is a dog who thrives on company, and the honest truth is that we can't give him the hours he deserves in that new life. Choosing to rehome him is the hardest thing we've had to do, and we're only doing it because we want what's genuinely best for him rather than what's easiest for us. Because of that, we're not looking to hand him to just anyone. We'd love to hear a bit about you: and what daily life would look like for him. The right home matters more to us than a quick one. Very intelligent Dachshunds learn quickly and know how to please
Fun-loving and playful by nature
Energetic and feisty Dachshunds like to be kept entertained

Cons

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own
Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints
They are prone to putting on too much weight if not given enough daily exercise
The breed is known to suffer from quite a few health concerns so vet bills can be high and why pet insurance is so important for anyone owning a Dachshund
