GENETICS NEVER LIE…
In this game of German Shepherd Dog breeding, one truth remains unshakable...GENETICS NEVER LIE. You can feed the dog the best food, train it like a soldier, or groom it till it shines, but if the genetics aren’t right, you’re only polishing a weak foundation.
A dog can only give what it's genetically wired to give. If the sire and dam lack drive, courage, structure, or nerve strength, don't expect a miracle from the puppies. If both parents are soft, nervous, or lack working ability, their offspring will carry the same weaknessesweaknesses, no matter how much hype or marketing you put behind them.
Look at the great German Shepherds of old dogs from Czech, DDR, and West German working lines. Their genetics were built on strength, stability, working ability, and health. That's why they produced generation after generation of real, dependable working dogs. Today, some breeders chase beauty and color over function, ignoring temperament, working nerve, and drive and we are now seeing the consequences.
So, as a breeder or buyer, always remember: Pedigree is not just paper, it's the DNA blueprint. Study it well. Because in this game, GENETICS NEVER LIE.
CATELLO JET
Dominant, Rock Solid Nerve,Very High Civil Aggression
It’s sad to see how the structure and strong nature of this noble breed have declined over the years. The original GSD was known for its power, endurance, working drive, and strong nerves but today, many of those traits are fading.
Why? Because modern breeding has shifted focus from function to fashion. Many breeders now chase beauty and show looks, ignoring the core purpose of the breed , which is work! Dogs are being bred with sloped backs, weak joints, and poor temperament, just to win shows or make quick money. Few breeders test for working ability, courage, or soundness anymore.
Back in the day, GSDs from DDR, Czech, and West German working lines were selected through tough trials. They were solid, focused, and built for real work. Today, too many litters are born without any form of test, training, or standard.
We need to go back to breeding for temperament, structure, and purpose. If we don’t protect the legacy of this breed, we’ll end up with nothing but a shadow of the true German Shepherd.
