Description
Merlin is an absolutely wonderful cat, more like a dog really. Growls at the door, plays non stop and is down to play even if he's relaxing he'll get straight up. Will steal your tea. Lays is extremely weird positions. Odd obsession with carpet corners, he's convinced there's something hiding under them so it's a great place to hide a toy. Adores kids so I would rather he go to a home with cat savvy kids or maybe plans to have some in the future. Extremely friendly with people, just wary when they first come in. Loves cuddles, but has no personal space. Will sit on the pillow waiting for you to open the duvet. Will follow you absolutely everywhere and shout if he can't see you, quick shout back shuts him up. Crate trained, whistle, clicker and name responsive. Clicker more so promises treats so it's the most effective. Thinks the sound of a jar opening means treats. Knows a click of the fingers means he's doing something he shouldn't and will usually chirp like he's talking back to you. Will steal your chair at the drop of a hat. Nickname is Crazy Merlin because he gets the zoomies very often, very often. Even though he's nearly 2 he is still very playful. Small issues with food as he will eat everything in his bowl straight away so it needs to be portioned, we do one scoop morning one scoop afternoon. He knows how to sit and give paw, though he tries to get away with not giving direct contact for paw, brilliant with sit though. Doesn't scratch furniture as long as there's a scratcher. Doesn't eat plants except grassy types or spider plants. I have a couple succulents and peace lilies, hasn't even tried them. He does however try to eat chocolate so no treats left out. He will steal any food or drink if you leave it unattended. He is an indoor cat, but I think he'd be a perfect cat to follow you outside and chill in the sun with you. Supervised of course in case he gets into a fight with any other cat.
Now the issue, he developed a very intense aggression towards my older male cat. We had him from 3 months and they were fine for a year. They have been separated since April. Cage time in the same room to desensitize him to my other cat and realise he isn't a threat. His aggression goes beyond resource guarding or antagonising as my other cat doesn't fight back at all when he attacks him. Even with leash time around him and different training, nothing is working. I do not think this will limit him, in the future I feel like he can be with another cat as long as he's settled and you get them very young and get them neutered. Females I don't think he'll have an issue with. We found a cat and it was only in the house for an hour with Merlin locked in another room and he wouldn't stop growling for hours and prowling the house looking for it for days.
Bonus, he is dog friendly. We watched a dog for a few days and he loved her. Followed her everywhere. She was cat friendly so never even paid him any mind. So even though he has some aggression to male cats, it will not limit you to not getting anymore pets.
I will ask that you don't message me if he's still available. It is not first come first serve. I will be assessing each person and home to find the best fit. Please send me your information, home life, things you'll prepare or think he'll enjoy. Basically just give me some information and I'll ask questions back. I really want him to go to a home he can grow old in
He will come with his bed and favourite toys, he has a crochet carrot he's very attached to. He is neutered and microchipped, we can change his details after
