No, but could be beneficial Living with cats? I can’t live with cats or small pets Where can I live? I’d like a calm home with a garden Where am I from? Cyprus, now in Warwickshire About Winston Winston is a five year old terrier mix, originally rescued from Cyprus and now living in Warwickshire. He weighs 11kg and is a happy, healthy, friendly little guy, but unfortunately he is seeking a new forever home. We are looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can enjoy companionship, countryside walks, and plenty of affection. We would also love to find a foster home for him while we search, as he’s currently struggling to relax around the family’s toddler, which isn’t fair on anyone. Winston has always been a bright, loving and goofy little dog with a lot of character. He’s friendly and social with adults, keen to welcome visitors, and loves to be close to his people. His current family describe him as cuddly, loyal, and affectionate. He enjoys snuggling on the sofa, playing tug, sniffing through long grass, and indulging in his favourite treats: cheese, peanut butter and puppuccinos. He settles well in the house, doesn’t chew or steal food, and is happy snoozing for hours after a walk or play session. He’s also a very dog-friendly boy and thrives around dogs of a similar size. He especially enjoys playful, puppyish companions and has always shown positive behaviour around other pups, even in busy walking areas. He can be a little wary around very large dogs at first but adapts quickly with a calm introduction. We feel he would enjoy a home with a resident dog who could offer companionship and some playful interaction. Winston’s need for rehoming comes from a breakdown in his relationship with the family’s toddler, which has sadly escalated over time. While he has always been gentle and reliable with adults, he has started to resource guard one of his owners and reacts unpredictably when the child approaches him for attention. Despite input from the Dogs Trust behavioural team and the family’s careful management, their relationship hasn’t improved and his family feel they can no longer offer him the calm and consistent environment he needs to thrive. Winston is fully housetrained, good on the lead, and has generally reliable recall. He knows a number of commands and responds well to praise and positive reinforcement. He loves to learn and enjoys interactive games, scent work, and enrichment toys. He is also very tolerant of grooming and handling and wears a muzzle calmly when required at the vet. He can be left for a few hours without issue and has good house manners. In early 2024, Winston was hit by a car and suffered a severe nerve injury that caused loss of function in his front left leg. Despite dedicated physiotherapy and hydrotherapy, he didn’t regain any movement, and with input from his vet and physiotherapist, the decision was made to amputate the limb. He recovered well from surgery and has adjusted brilliantly to life on three legs. He’s now back to enjoying walks, games, and zoomies through the grass, though he does have slightly reduced stamina and prefers shorter walks than he did before. He can manage a few steps, but cannot safely do full flights of stairs or jump in and out of a car without help, so his adopter will need to be comfortable lifting him when needed. Winston would be happiest in a quiet, rural or semi-rural home with access to a nice little garden. He would suit someone who works from home or is around often, as he loves company and thrives when he’s part of daily life. We’re looking for a home without young children, and hasn’t had much exposure to older ones, so an adult-only household would be the best fit and ensure that Winston is set up for success. He doesn’t like cats or small animals and should be walked on the lead in areas where wildlife is present. Winston’s family are devastated to be making this decision and have done so with nothing but his best interests at heart. They’ve given him a wonderful five years and now want him to have the peaceful, happy life he deserves. Winston is a loving, clever and entertaining companion, and in the right environment, he will make a truly devoted friend.
