Description

Here we have Jeff. Jeff loves cuddles, attention, walks, playing fetch and is great around kids and other dogs but he is very shy at first so it takes him some time to feel comfortable. The problem I’m having with Jeff is marking his territory everywhere. I’ve tried to put many steps in place but unfortunately my children goes against any form of training leaving him more isolated which is having a negative impact on him. I honestly believe in the right environment where consistency is used and no longer being around a male dog will settle him down. He doesn’t like to be left alone and more built up areas on walks can spook him a little but he soon settles when he feels safe. A wooden dog crate and his bed can be available to go with him too. He’s fed a diet of wet and dry food twice a day

Pros

Extremely affectionate and loyal little dogs
Very intelligent Dachshunds learn quickly and know how to please
Fun-loving and playful by nature
Energetic and feisty Dachshunds like to be kept entertained

Cons

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own
Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints
They are prone to putting on too much weight if not given enough daily exercise
The breed is known to suffer from quite a few health concerns so vet bills can be high and why pet insurance is so important for anyone owning a Dachshund
