Description
Pumpkin’s story is one of heartbreak and hope.
This handsome ginger-and-white boy, around two years old, was abandoned when his owners moved away, leaving him behind in the garden to fend for himself. When a concerned neighbour became aware and alerted a local vet clinic, the team tracked down his previous owners, only to be told: “Just get rid of it. We left it there for a reason.”
It’s hard to imagine how anyone could turn their back on such a sweet, gentle soul. Thankfully, the vets reached out to us for help, and of course, we said yes.
When Pumpkin arrived, he was slightly malnourished, exhausted, and very withdrawn. For the first few days, he mostly slept, perhaps finally feeling safe enough to rest. With regular meals, probiotics, and a special gastro diet to settle his tummy, he began to regain his strength. And with that came the real Pumpkin: a cheerful, playful, loving boy who has so much joy to share.
Pumpkin absolutely adores playtime. His favourite toys are fishing-rod wands and jingly balls that he can chase and pounce on - he’s quite the little footballer at heart! When he’s not playing, you’ll find him lounging up high on his cat tree, soaking up the sunshine or curled in one of its cubby holes for a nap. He’s affectionate, gentle, and happiest when near his humans - often seeking out cuddles and company.
Pumpkin would thrive as the only cat in the home, as he can be defensive around other felines. He hasn’t been tested with dogs, but we suspect he could adapt well to calm, respectful ones given a gentle introduction. He’s never scratched or bitten during play, so would also do well with sensible, pet-aware children.
We can’t begin to understand why anyone would abandon him, but we do know this: Pumpkin will never be let down again. He deserves a home filled with love, warmth, and the comfort of knowing he’ll never be left behind.

Please note: Every Cat Matters is an indoor-only rescue. This means all our cats should be kept in a safe, enriching indoor environment, unless they have access to a secure cat-proof garden, catio, or netted balcony.
We believe cats can live full, happy lives without free roaming outdoors. Keeping them safe indoors protects them from road accidents, injuries, contagious illnesses, and territorial fights - while also helping to preserve local wildlife. With love, enrichment, and security, indoor cats truly thrive.
