About Olive
At the beginning of May, our Head of Adoptions, Eve, was alerted to a family of dogs living on a disused piece of farmland in the middle of nowhere. The dogs had been reported to have been terrified, but one by one she managed to lure the puppies to safety.
All of the puppies were frozen with fear when they were first rescued. Their interactions with humans had probably been extremely limited and it’s likely they’d never really been handled or up close to them before. It took a while before the pups would warm to anyone at the shelter and they watched their mum closely to figure out how they should behave. As of the 20th July, the Farm Family are now all in UK foster homes waiting to find their permanent families.
Olive is now living in Merseyside, in a lovely foster home with another resident rescue pup who is helping to show her the way. She is doing really well and is now almost house trained and crate trained, despite a little resistance to begin with. She is very bright and picks up new things fast, so given some focus and 1-2-1 training we think she will learn new things very quickly! She is eager to please and willing to learn, and responds well to positive reinforcement.
Olive is very good with other dogs and is very happy in their company. For this reason we would prefer to home her alongside a resident pup as she not only benefits from their guidance, but she really likes having a friend to hang out with. She is sociable, dog-savvy and just a generally lovely, playful little friend with other pups. She has also shown that she can be very gentle around children, if a little cautious to start with. We would be comfortable rehoming her into a family and think once she’s bonded with any kids in the home, they will become peas in a pod!
Olive now settles well overnight with the help of her foster brother, and is forming strong bonds with people she trusts. Once she knows you she’s extremely cuddly and loves nothing more than to snuggle up and enjoy a fuss. When left alone, she’s still a bit anxious, but this is improving daily with routine and training, so she will only continue to progress in the right direction from here. She also loves her walks and although she’s a bit submissive around unfamiliar dogs when on the lead, but as soon as she approaches all her guards come down and she’s wiggly and friendly!
Olive would be best suited to a home outside of the busy city, and with a family who are looking for a friendly, fun-loving puppy to become a part of their gang. She is full of love and is going to be such a wonderful new addition to a lucky family out there!
