Description

I am sadly having to rehome my three year old cat, Iris. I’ve had Iris since she was born but for several months now it has been very clear that she is no longer happy in our multi-cat household and as upset as I am to have to see her go it is what’s best for her. I am looking for a home that can perfectly understand her needs and behaviour and someone who will keep me updated on how she is doing regularly for at least the first few weeks but longer if you were happy to do that, because she is so special to me and I just want what’s best for her. She is an absolute sweetheart, she loves a fuss and a cuddle and loves to come up and bother you at nighttime for love and snuggles, she’s absolutely lovely and just needs a home without other animals and someone who can give her all of the love and extra care that she needs. There are some things you should know about Iris though before welcoming her into your home: Iris was born with cat flu, she goes through phases (typically when she is stressed) where her eyes become very crusty and need cleaned and sometimes even need eye drops or antibiotics from the vet, she is not the easiest cat to give medication to and it is generally a two person job but she isn’t a cat who would attack you she would just hide. Because of her cat flu she has brownish staining on her front paws and chin, this is due to her cleaning her eyes with her paws and essentially spreading the discharge, I’ve never been able to completely get rid of the staining but it is definitely much better when her eyes are kept clean, depending on what’s going on with her she usually needs her eyes cleaned at least once a week because they’re typically always a bit gunky, sometimes there are worse days and sometimes there are better days but it doesn’t seem to bother her and there is a very good chance that once she is out of the stressful environment she is in here the cat flu symptoms may start to disappear because it is made worse by stress. She is very small for her age and won’t grow any bigger, she is an adult cat but doesn’t look it. Other than the cat flu Iris is a very happy and healthy cat, she is so full of life and full of energy all the time and the cat flu isn’t a very big issue that actually affects her day to day life, it’s just something to keep an eye on but other than looks you wouldn’t know she had any issues at all. Her nature and personality reflects how happy and healthy she actually is. Iris has been spayed and is microchipped, she is not vaccinated due to her cat flu because my vet advised against it in case it made her symptoms worse. She is a strictly indoor cat and I would like her to stay that way, I believe she’d enjoy a catio/safe enclosed outdoor space because she loves to climb and chase things but due to her health, size and timid nature she is not suited to an outdoor lifestyle. She has never been around young children so I can not speak on her behaviour around them based on experience but I don’t think there would be an issue there, although she can sometimes be startled by sudden movements so a very young child may not be best for her. Because of her cat flu being a pre-existing condition it is not covered on insurance if there are any issues that arise from that, so far I’ve never had any issues with her that have needed to be claimed on insurance it’s only ever been occasional appointments and medication but it’s important you know what you’d be stepping into. She will come with wet food, dry food, her food bowl and a cat carrier, she will need a cat tree because she loves to climb, and especially loves a hammock, but we can’t give these away with her because they’re needed for the other cats in our home. She is litter trained and uses tofu cat litter, she also drinks from a water fountain but would probably drink from a bowl if necessary, she does enjoy the running water though. Also wanted to add that Iris is not deaf, she is white and has heterochromia but she is not deaf like people tend to assume. If you’ve read this far and feel like you can give Iris the perfect home please message me, if you have any questions at all I am more than happy to answer them and give you as much information as possible. Rehoming Iris is not a decision we’ve taken lightly and we have tried for months to make her happy here but it isn’t working and it isn’t fair on her.
