About Scoop
Meet Scoop, a handsome Bretton Spaniel with a gentle heart. Scoop's journey has been anything but easy. He arrived at the shelter just before the hunting season commenced and was a very nervous boy who had clearly not been treated very kindly. After months of being overlooked, we made the decision to bring Scoop to the UK to a foster home, in order to give him a better chance of finding his new beginning. He did amazingly well with his foster family and gained tonnes of confidence, leading him to find what we thought was his forever home soon after. Sadly, after just five days, Scoop’s family reached out to us to say that they didn't think they could offer Scoop the home he needed, and once again he’s looking for a new family.
We must stress that Scoop is by no means a difficult dog, and the only thing he’s struggling with is some overnight separation anxiety. His family have commented on how great a dog he is, but a change in personal circumstances has lead them to the decision to rehome him. Scoop is an absolute sweetheart who loves people and other dogs. He is a kind hearted, loving and loyal boy who we truly believe has fantastic potential and so much to offer. He’s just not bee so lucky as of late.
Scoop’s confidence has come on so much in the past few months and we hardly recognise him from the shy boy he was back in the shelter! He is the definition of a lover and not a fighter, and he would desperately try to make friends with everyone in the shelter. He shies away from any conflict and is a truly great mixer when it comes to living alongside lots of other dogs. He’s always keen to greet new dogs and is vey wiggly and friendly. Scoop shines in the company of other similar natured dogs with a calm, friendly disposition, and would thrive with a resident dog to play with and learn from. He does however adore people though too, so would be fine to live alone as long as he had plenty of attention and company. He lived in a foster home as the only dog from March-May without any problems.
One area that Scoop is having a little difficulty at the moment is settling overnight on his own. In his foster home, he was used to sleeping upstairs in the bedroom, but his current home would prefer he sleeps downstairs, and this is causing him some anxiety at the moment. With some training and consistency this is definitely an area that could be worked on, and it may also be alleviated by the presence of other dogs.
Scoop is looking for a moderately active lifestyle, enjoying walks, playtime and adventures. A home with a garden, based outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, would suit him best. He would feel most comfortable in a semi-rural environment where he can explore and adventure. He is going to be amazing as a companion once he’s properly slotted into his new home as he has such a devoted nature and he is the most loyal, kind soul.
Scoop is keen to learn and eager to please. He is very food motivated, and can walk very nicely on the lead! Treats will serve as the perfect reward for reinforcing new, positive behaviours, and he picks up new things and navigates new situations really well. He’s super smart and responds well to training. He is also very gentle, patient and tolerant of young children, so could be a great addition to a young family who have the time for an active dog.
While some experience with spaniels would be beneficial for understanding his unique needs, it is not a requirement. If you have the love, patience, and kindness that Scoop needs, we have no doubt that he will repay you with loyalty, sweetness, and the joy of watching him blossom into a loving companion.
Scoop is currently based in Bedfordshire and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to meet his new family, but this time it needs to be forever.
