Description

I have had Maggie since she was 9 weeks old and the decision to give her up has been a very difficult one but the best one for her. Maggie was advertised as a lurcher. The parents I was shown were a collie x greyhound and a greyhound x whippet. She was meant to be a playmate for my other dog, a little terrier. It became obvious quite quickly that Maggie was a shepherd dog, which her original breeder denied. After a DNA test showed she was more than half German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois, I tried to embrace this knowledge, educate myself on the breed and try to meet her needs. She has had all her puppy checks, vaccinations and chip. I also took her to puppy school. The last few months though have proven really difficult. I learned quite quickly that Maggie doesn’t tolerate being at home while I’m at work like my other dog does. She needs lots of exercise,. Walks, runs and sniff time. Her and my other dog do not walk well together which means I am walking them separately. It’s getting too difficult and exhausting for me to do this. She also does not get on with my other dog at all! resulting in them being separated in the house which is proving to be a nightmare. Maggie is also far too boisterous around my young grandchild and I fear she will accidentally get hurt. Though this all sounds negative, on her own she is a lovely dog. A big baby at 11 months. She loves sofa cuddles, tummy rubs, squeaky and soft toys. She thrives on attention, praise and learns quickly through reward. She is house trained. She is fine around my older children. She has never shown aggression to a person. If she takes something she is not allowed, I can remove it from her mouth with no resistance. I am heartbroken I can’t give her the environment she needs and hate admitting defeat but I can’t go on as I am. She deserves more. She would be an amazing companion as an only dog.
