How big? Medium as adult (estimated) How old? Puppy (DOB 07.03.2025) Male or female? Female Living with kids? I can live with children (6+) Living with dogs? I can live with other dogs Resident dog required? Preferred Living with cats? I’ve not been tested with cats Where can I live? I’d like a semi-rural home with a garden Where am I from? Cyprus, now in Kent About Poppy At the beginning of May, our Head of Adoptions, Eve, was alerted to a family of dogs living on a disused piece of farmland in the middle of nowhere. The dogs had been reported to have been terrified, but one by one she managed to lure the puppies to safety. All of the puppies were frozen with fear when they were first rescued. Their interactions with humans had probably been extremely limited and it’s likely they’d never really been handled or up close to them before. It took a while before the pups would warm to anyone at the shelter and they watched their mum closely to figure out how they should behave. As of the 20th July, the Farm Family are now all in UK foster homes waiting to find their permanent families. When the pups were in the shelter Poppy was among the two shyest of the litter. However she has really surprised us all since arriving in her foster home in the UK and she is adjusting to a companion lifestyle like an absolute pro! Poppy is great with people and given a little time to form a bond with them she is loyal, trusting and very affectionate. She has already learned to sit, and her lead training is coming on so quickly! She enjoys her walks and is starting to navigate the big wide world very bravely and confidently. Poppy has taken to crate training very well and sleeps overnight with little trouble. She has benefitted from having a patient, calm resident dog to learn from and she’s really loved having that canine company, but we would be willing to consider homes without other resident dogs if they can offer the right environment for her. The change in her in such a short amount of time shows just how much potential she truly has and we’re so proud of her! She is the sweetest girl with such a gentle nature, and we’re sure she’ll get far sillier and fun-loving once adjusted. Poppy has also spent time with children as young as five, and has been very gentle and well behaved, if a little nervous. She does show interest in greeting kids when out on walks though so we think in a home with children who are familiar with dogs and can give her space when needed, she would be absolutely fine and likely form a wonderful friendship in due course. Poppy would be best suited to a semi-rural home away from any very busy areas, and with a family who can take things steadily as she finds her feet in another new environment. She has been adjusting so well since she arrived and we know that she’s going to bring so much joy into her forever home when she finds it!
