Due to circumstances out of my control I am having to rehome my boy Otis. This is due to the fact that I gave birth 3 weeks ago, and have seen a significant change in his behaviour towards myself and my newborn. He is a 17 months old grey and tan Dachshund. Otis has always been an amazing loving dog, we have never experienced any behavioural issues until falling pregnant with my son, of course his safety and well-being is my priority. Otis needs a home with no other dogs, and older children (around 12 years old upwards). Although otis has grown up around multiple other dogs, he is still wary of other dogs until he has been properly introduced over time, I would not want to overwhelm him even more than he will be having to move homes. Otis has also been around young children and has always been good, but with his change of behaviour recently and the fact he will already be overwhelmed, I would not want to risk putting him around young children and need children that are of an age of understanding he will need his own personal space whilst he gets used to his new home. Otis requires a lot of mental stimulation, he loves his exercise, so I would need his new owners to have their own private garden, and be willing to take him on daily walks. I would love his new owners to have an understanding of this breed of dog, as they are not your average cuddly small dog like people think, they are made for hunting and require a lot of stimulation and understanding. His owner will need to keep on top of his training and be assertive with him, as he does try and push boundaries but once he is used to you he does listen. He is good on walks, I have taken a lot of time to ensure he has a good recall and I had control over him on walks, although he is very wary of other dogs unless he has been introduced to them properly. His new owners will need to keep on top of his training and put the time and effort in that he deserves. He is so loving once he is used to you, he stays in bed with me and even watches tv. He is crate trained for the night times, and fully house trained. He will come with a small price tag to ensure he goes to a home that actually want him for the right reasons. He will not just be going to anybody as this has really not been an easy decision for me, anyone that knows me knows I adore my dogs more than anything so this is heartbreaking for me.
