Description
It is with a heavy heart that I am looking for a wonderful new home for my beloved Border Collie x huntaway, Byron. Byron is beautiful inside and out, a loving, sweet natured and highly enthusiastic copper red tri. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I cannot give him the life he deserves. He gets on well with other dogs (I have two others) though he is the bottom of the pack and so they do bully him which is an issue. Byron is very loving to people. Byron has very high need for stimulation and exercise, which is more than a border collie due to his huntaway part, which is 1/4. He is happy to chill too and loves nothing more than a snuggle up on the bed or couch, but ideally would go to someone who has land where he can run freely, or someone who can spend at least two hours a day throwing a ball for him in the garden, as he loves his ball very much and is very good at finding it and brining it back. To my mind his ideal home would be a family with with mid aged or teenage children who wanted to take him out on long hikes and play with him a lot. I don't think he'd be good with young children as he is very enthusiastic, jumps up and he does bark a lot because of the huntaway gene, for example at noises outside, and when I come in after going shopping. He's ok to be left alone for a short time but ideally yould not be alone for more than two hours per day, or at least have another canine companion to play with. I'm not asking as much as he is worth, because I want him to go to the right home. ByronThere are some conditions of adoption of Byron and I will ask that you agree to these. If you think you can't then it's best that you don't contact me. I would prefer him to keep his name, as he knows it very well. I would like whoever has him to stay in touch with me so I know how he is, and to be able to see him occasionally (we can discuss the finer details so all parties are happy and it's not invasive). I would need to make certain that you can give him what he needs and are used to the energy, strength and intelligence of a collie x huntaway or similar. Byron is a strong dog and does pull a bit on lead and can use a figure of 8 nose lead which helps. He is also often very good on walks hanging back and walking at the side. He is sometimes a little reactive sometimes with strange dogs, snarling at them if they get into his space uninvited, which is a totally normal dog behaviour. However he seems to be fine with other dogs once he gets to know them, he ran in a field with 25 other collies with no issues recently. He can bark at other strange dogs when he is on lead but this may be a lead based behaviour. It is a reluctant rehome as I am very fond of Byron, but I just think he'd be better off with people who can give him what he needs and were he won't be bullied by my two girls. If you're not in the same area as me it's not a problem, I could perhaps meet you on a video call initially for a chat, and there's a possibility I could deliver him, as it would be good to see where Byron will be living in person.
