My beloved Sophie Sausage is very sadly up for rehome due to no fault of her own. She was born in November 2021. I have had her since 8 weeks of age.
I am currently quite poorly and have to go for an operation soon. I have no one to look after my snake while I’m poorly (and most importantly while I recover from surgery which could be up to 8 weeks!!!). I am somewhat panicking about this. Unfortunately, my friends and family are frightened/uncomfortable with snakes (so very common) and are refusing to feed dead mice to my snake for me to allow me to keep her during this difficult time. I am forced to rehome her. I am extremely sad. I can not give her for free it would be risky. So this is my first step to finding my love a safe home.
If you have experience with snakes that would be the best kind of home. While the royal python is a wonderful pet their care is complicated and they can not feed for months. (This does not mean I can abandon my snake for months while I am recovering by the way, her temps and humidity must be checked daily especially in this heat!).
She currently lives in a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank as our much loved pet. She does now and again stop eating (it seems to be in patterns, possibly to do with her cycles I’m not sure I’m not a breeder). It can be a little frustrating but she soon gets her appetite back! She eats mice the biggest mice I can find (ex breeders) and will have the occasional small rat. Frozen thawed of course. I don’t try rats often because she normally wastes them and it’s upsetting knowing an animal lost its life for nothing. Unfortunately when I bought her I didn’t realise it would be best to go to a breeder who fed rats rather than mice as it’s difficult to then transition them to rats (you have to change them over because mice just aren’t big enough to sustain them properly). She hasn’t transitioned and I think it’s meant she’s a lighter weight than would be expected for a female of her age. But it’s not a problem she’s a lovely healthy shape. Her scales are all healthy etc.
She has a wonderful temperament, never bitten, never aggressive. Classic royal python temperament. This is heart breaking finding a new home for her because I know she trusts me (sounds silly but I know she knows me!). She absolutely loves her moist box. This is essential to keep her sheds healthy while she is in such a huge tank. The tank will also need to be upgraded to 5ft or even 6ft depending on how much and when she grows.
She’s never been interested in eating chicks either. Some snakes love it apparently but not Sophie haha.
I have her feed record for you too see from when she was 8 weeks.
I do have her tank, heating ceramic lamps. Thermostats. Spare thermostats. Spare heat pads for the winter. I have it all. If you were interested in this, I would sell separately for a price we can negotiate. However, my top priority is finding her a very good home asap without involving rescue centres if I can help it.
