Description

This is Honey our golden cocker spaniel. Based in Herefordshire. A very sad rehoming. After losing our elderly male spaniel last year and still having a young female we decided to add a pup to our home and it hasn’t worked out for us. She is great with children (age 6 and 10), lives with another female dog (no fighting or territorial issues) and 2 cats. She is toilet trained, crate trained, happy to travel in the car and shown no sign of resource guarding, aggression or reactivity. Yearly booster due January 2025. Has been wormed and flea’d end of November. Has had one full season and has started her second. She is NOT to go to a home where you plan on breeding. Unfortunately she can lack a lot of confidence and is a shy and nervous dog. She is very unsure with new people and skittish. This is where she struggles with confidence. She can be a needy dog and doesn’t like to be left for too long. Despite my partners best efforts, she does not like her and displays submissive urination with her and this has become unmanageable and causes strain. I need to be clear my partner has never done anything to frighten her and has always been the person who has trained our puppies, feed, walk, train and works from home to make sure they have their needs met. We have never had this issue and owned dogs all our lives. She displays no submissive behaviour towards me, our children or at our dog sitters house. We just don’t know why she can’t get on with my partner who she still will approach or play ball games with. It doesn’t seem to be a good fit. We think she would be better in a calmer, quieter home with someone / people who perhaps don’t work anymore, retired, work part time etc and have experience with nervousness and dogs who need help building confidence and has the time to bring her along as she really does have a sweet and gentle nature. This hasn’t been an easy decision and my partner has tried so so hard but it’s become too stressful for her to manage. We have had some help from a behaviouralist but it hasn’t worked as sometimes she wants to engage with my partner and other times when she engages back the urination happens. Apart from that she has never toileted in the house and was actually our easiest dog to toilet train! We would like to find her a new, loving home quickly so she can adjust and settle in. Please message if you have any questions. We are not rehoming for free to ensure that she goes to the right home, we do not want to attract the wrong people / attention with this advert.
