Buying From a Licensed Breeder
Many councils encourage buyers to check that a breeder is properly licensed where a licence is legally required. Licensing helps protect animal welfare and gives buyers confidence that minimum standards have been inspected.
As councils advise, anyone earning £1,000 or more from breeding dogs over a 12-month period may require a licence. Always ask to see the breeder’s licence before buying a puppy.
