12 Large Cat Breeds That Make Lovely Pets

There are some really great looking large domestic cats around these days, some of which are pure breeds whereas others are mixed. If you are hoping to share your home with an impressive feline companion, checking through the list below is a great place to start your search.

The American Bobtail

These lovely cats can weigh in at anything from 7 to 16 lbs and they boast a wild look about them with their bobbed tail adding to their appeal. However, these strong and muscular felines boast very kind and playful natures. Being highly intelligent, the American Bobtail is quick to learn games like fetch and there's nothing they enjoy more than going for a walk with the people they love.

The Bengal

Bengals can weigh anything from 9 to 15 lbs when they are fully grown and if you want to share your home with a larger feline that boasts a ton of energy, this gorgeous cat could be the perfect choice for you. Incredibly smart, the Bengal can be taught to do all sorts of things which includes going out for a walk with you and on a warm day, there's nothing they like more than going for a swim – unlike many of their other feline cousins!

The Chausie

The Chausie can weigh in anything from 15 to 25 lbs making them among the largest of the domestic felines on the planet. These lovely pussy cats boast a wild ancestry and as such are very capable of making some pretty daring and adventurous leaps into the air. They are highly intelligent characters and there's nothing they like more than jumping up somewhere high to watch the world go by below from their vantage point.

The Cymric

The gorgeous Cymric which is the long-haired version of the Manx cat is another large cat that can weigh anything from 8 to 16 lbs when fully grown. Although, they may look a little ferocious, they are in fact really affectionate, loving and playful pussy cats. The great thing about the Cymric, is they are pretty independent and laid back by nature which is why they are so nice to have around. However, they are not very tolerant of other animals or cats coming onto their territory which they will defend quite ferociously.

The Highlander

When fully grown, the Highlander cat can weigh anything from 12 to 22 lbs and although they may look a little fierce, these large felines are actually among the more playful pussy cats around. Highlanders may not be very talkative, but they more than make up for this with their silly antics and are very social by nature which is just one of the reasons they are a popular choice as family pets.

The Maine Coon

Main Coons can weigh in at anything from 9 to 20 lbs when they are well cared for adult cats and boast being among the oldest breeds to come from America. True predators, these lovely looking cats have very kind natures which is why they have become such a popular breed other than in their native America.

The Pixie Bob

Another large and very handsome looking cat, Pixie Bobs are known for their intelligence and even enjoy being put on a lead and taken out for walks much like their canine counterparts. However, they need to be kept busy because they are extremely active characters by nature albeit incredibly loving ones. When fully grown, the Pixie Bob can weigh in at anything up to 18 lbs!

The Ragdoll

When fully grown, a Ragdoll cat can weigh anything up to 20 lbs which makes them among the largest pussy cats around. These lovely cats look even bigger due to their fluffy coats and are amazingly laid-back by nature even with people they do not know. However, they do tend to get very attached to the people they love, following them around the house from room to room and there's nothing they enjoy more than snuggling up on a couch for a cuddle.

The Norwegian Forest Cat

These large and lovely looking felines can weigh in at 20 lbs when they are fully grown and although they look muscular and strong, they are in fact really soft by nature. They are well known for showing their unconditional love to their owners being incredibly loyal and affectionate by nature.

The Savannah

Another large and very beautiful pussy cat, the Savannah is a relative newcomer to the scene and they have made a tremendous impact not only for their wonderful looks, but their quick and highly intelligent natures too. Again, these ultra clever pussy cats can be taught to do all sorts of things which includes going out for a walk on a lead. They are extremely athletic felines and are capable of jumping up to heights of 8 foot and more with no problem at all!

The Siberian

The Siberian is among one of the largest breeds of domestic cats on the planet and when fully grown can weigh anything up to 26 lbs. These lovely large cats are extremely sociable and loving although they are built to survive in some of the harshest conditions in their native homeland of Siberia. They are also known to be very playful and like nothing better than to keep their owners entertained for hours with their silly antics.

The Nebelung

Another large breed that can weigh anything up to 16 lbs when fully grown, the Nebelung is a very dignified and handsome looking feline. However, they tend to bond with one person rather than everyone in a household. They are very sensitive pussy cats that need lots of love sent their way which is does make them rather endearing albeit a little demanding.
