Hunting terriers, also known as German Hunting Terrier, German Hunt Terrier, are small dogs that originated in Germany, where they were originally bred to work both above and below ground, tracking their prey. They have always been highly regarded for their hunting skills in their native country and in Europe in general, where hunting terriers are still used to hunt larger game such as wild boar and smaller prey such as badgers, foxes and weasels.

Jagdterriers can make good pets for active owners who understand their hunting background and high energy levels. They are loyal, intelligent, and affectionate with their family but require consistent training, early socialisation, and plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to thrive. They are best suited for experienced owners who can manage their strong prey drive and energetic nature.
