The Basset Griffon Vendeen, also known as Vendean Griffon Basset, is a very skilled tracking dog, and although small in stature, these dogs are very long in body. Their most endearing feature is their beautiful bushy eyebrows, moustache, and beard, which add to their overall charming appearance. Over the years, these adorable dogs have become popular as companion and family dogs in many regions of the world, but they were originally bred in France to hunt game and track down rabbits and hares.

Petit Basset Griffon Vendéens (PBGVs) make good pets for active families or individuals who can meet their exercise and training needs. They are lively, cheerful, affectionate, and bond deeply with their owners. While playful and good with children when supervised due to their small size, they have a strong prey drive and can be stubborn, requiring consistent and patient training. They are social dogs but tend to be vocal and need ample mental and physical stimulation, making them less ideal for very laid-back households.
