They are in fact a smaller version of a Akita Inu and like their larger cousins, they were originally bred as hunting and working dogs. Shibas always seem to be interested in everything going on around them, and over the years they have earned a reputation in their native Japan as a reliable, trustworthy, and fun-loving family pet.
