Chinese Red Dogs are large and athletic, typically weighing between 71 to 132 pounds and standing 25 to 31 inches tall. They have a short, dense coat that is primarily red with black or tan markings on the muzzle, chest, legs, and throat. Distinctive features include tall, erect, bat-like ears, almond-shaped amber or dark brown eyes, and sometimes dark pigmentation on gums and tongue. They shed minimally and may have either a single or double coat.

Chinese Red Dogs are calm, intelligent, loyal, and brave, making them excellent guard dogs and family companions. They have a protective nature yet are generally well-mannered and friendly when properly socialised. These dogs are energetic and require regular mental and physical activity. They adapt well to new environments and typically get along well with children and other dogs if raised together.
