Description
Mei Mei (Maple) came into our home at the end of Feb 2025.
At that time she was just over three months old — a KC-registered long-haired Dachshund puppy girl. (She is now over a year old, and she has grown into a truly special little soul.)
Mei Mei is a curious and lively girl, slow to warm up at first yet quietly brave. She observes the world carefully, then approaches it in her own gentle way — with sincerity and courage.
Over the past year, with consistent training and love, Mei Mei has learned to spin, shake paws (both sides), touch hands with her nose, and wait patiently before meals. (Our training has not been conducted in English, but we have always used clear hand signals, so transitioning her to English commands should be easy.) Mei Mei has never lacked love in our home. She has been raised with patience, kindness, and constant companionship. She is deeply cherished and very much a part of our family.
However, there has been an ongoing challenge that we must be honest about.
We originally hoped Mei Mei would become a great companion for our other Dachshund, so they could keep each other company and grow up together. Despite trying many different approaches over time, it has become clear that their personalities are not compatible. Mei Mei is an energetic and playful dog who naturally wants to engage and play.
Our other dog, however, is more reserved and independent, and becomes anxious when Mei Mei is nearby — especially during playtime or when treats are involved. As a result, we have had to keep the two dogs separated within our home, and Mei Mei needs to stay in the same room with me most of the time. While we have done our best, this situation has gradually taken a toll.
This has been an incredibly painful decision. It has taken months of inner conflict, guilt, and reflection to arrive here. We are not rehoming Mei Mei because of a lack of love — but precisely because we love her so deeply. We want Mei Mei to have a life where she does not need to be separated, where she can receive full attention, freedom, and stability, and where she can truly thrive.
Mei Mei is a bright, affectionate, and lovable long-haired Dachshund girl. She deserves a home that can give her undivided love and care. Every word of this post has been written with a heavy heart. This is the most difficult and heartbreaking decision we have ever had to make — but one made with Mei Mei’s happiness at the centre.
Our sincere hope is to find Mei Mei a loving, responsible home where she can live a joyful, secure, and fulfilling life.
