Meet Ruffles
Ruffles is a 4 year old neutered male Cockapoo. his mum was a Cockapoo and his dad is a poodle, so please bare in mind he is very poodle.
We took Ruffles on for an old friend to try help him with his training and find him a more suitable home. We’ve been looking after him since January and have know we wouldn’t be able to give him exactly the life he needs.
•He does have his challenges, such as being dog reactive, especially on lead, which can be trained.
•His recall isn’t trustworthy so we do keep him on a longline, so it is improving, it’s more when something seems far better, he just blocks you out.
•He likes to take objects from around the house such tissues, plastic bottles, socks and other fabric items. The problem is retrieving them, he can refuse, growl and has bitten, however training with his has gone well and the most we’ve gotten is a growl since a couple of weeks having him.
Please note: due to a lot of these things, I would not recommend a house with young children and only in a house with experienced people/owners.
He is a very energetic dog, who needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation. He does listen when doing tricks etc and is very obedient in that way. I think he’d be great with agility.
He’s honestly the cuddliest dog we’ve had. Always up for a real cuddle and loves to rest his head on your shoulder, which he call his “hugs”.
We have two other female cockapoos, and he has a tendency to get jealous for attention and can play up, which we know is having an effect on our girls. And with having two others to look after aswell, he just won’t get everything he needs.
He’s not had a lot of boundaries set in place the previous years so will test them and is just confused now. He’s confident but also can be a bit jumpy and flinchy. With enough stimulation, his confidence and trust will definitely grow and he makes such a lovely companion.
Overall he is a lovely and loving dog who has his challenges and needs someone who has the time and experience for a dog like him. Unfortunately, we weren’t aware of a lot of these things before we took him in. So I’d rather be honest with anyone who considers taking him. All people who show interest will be vetted thoroughly. And new owners will be able to take paperwork on his mum and dad which he has too.
