Description

About Fred This is one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make, and it truly breaks my heart to be writing this. But with a heavy heart, we are looking to rehome our beautiful miniature dachshund, Fred. Fred is just under a year old, full of love, full of energy, and full of personality. He’s a classic sausage dog through and through—long, low, and completely loveable. From his wiggly tail to his loyal eyes, Fred has brought so much joy and companionship into our lives. He’s affectionate, funny, curious, and incredibly loyal. If you’re looking for a best friend to share your sofa, your garden, your life—Fred is your boy. We got Fred as a puppy and have had him nearly a full year, raising him in a loving and active home. He’s very well socialised and has been brought up around other dogs and cats. In fact, one of his best friends is our family cat! They love to chase each other around, curl up together, and even share toys (when Fred’s in a generous mood!). Fred is a sociable, playful dog who gets along beautifully with other animals. He’s always happy to make new dog friends at the park and has never shown aggression to other animals or people. He’s curious about the world and excited by life. Every walk is an adventure to him, and every sock is a toy waiting to be discovered. ⸻ Why We’re Rehoming Fred We’ve recently had a new baby, and unfortunately, Fred’s protective instincts have become a challenge we’re unable to manage effectively. While he means no harm and has never shown any aggression, he’s very alert and protective of our son, which has led to anxiety and tension in the house. He barks when anyone approaches the baby, and though this is out of loyalty, we worry that he is becoming stressed and not getting the attention he deserves. This has been an agonising decision, and one we’ve wrestled with for months. We’ve tried our best to help Fred adjust, but in our heart of hearts, we know he needs a calmer environment and more dedicated time than we’re able to give him now. This isn’t fair to Fred, and it’s not fair to our baby, either. We want what’s best for both. This decision comes not from a place of frustration, but of love and respect for Fred. We want to find him a home where he can continue to thrive, be loved unconditionally, and enjoy the attention and playtime he absolutely adores. ⸻ Fred’s Personality • 🐶 Playful & Energetic – Fred loves to play fetch, chase toys, and romp around the garden. He gets the zoomies and races around with joy. He’ll bring laughter into your home every single day. • 🐱 Cat & Dog Friendly – Raised with a cat and socialised with dogs. He plays beautifully and loves company. • 🚗 Great in the Car – Fred travels well and enjoys looking out the window on road trips. • 🛋️ Cuddly & Affectionate – He’s the ultimate snuggle buddy. If you’re on the sofa, he’s right there beside you, ideally under a blanket. • 🧠 Smart & Alert – He’s got that typical dachshund intelligence and is always curious. He learns quickly and loves mental stimulation. • 🐾 Protective – He can be a bit of a guard dog when it comes to his people. He means well, but he can bark when strangers approach, especially around the baby. • 🌳 Loves Walks – Walks are one of his favourite things. He walks well on a lead and enjoys exploring. ⸻ Training & Health • ✅ House Trained – Fully housebroken and knows the rules indoors. • ✅ Crate Trained – Happy to rest in his crate and sees it as a safe space. • ✅ Microchipped – Registered and ready for a transfer to his new home. • ✅ Vaccinated – Fully up to date on all vaccinations. • ✅ Wormed & Flea Treated – Regularly treated and in excellent health. • ✅ Neutered – [Please specify if applicable] • 🐶 Vet Checked – No known health issues, healthy and active. Fred is used to a routine that includes a morning and evening walk, plenty of playtime, and lots of cuddles in between. He sleeps through the night and is comfortable being left for short periods (ideally not more than 4 hours). ⸻ What Comes with Fred Fred won’t be arriving at his new home empty-pawed! He’ll come with: • 🛏️ His bed – soft and cozy • 🍽️ Bowls for food and water • 🧸 Toys – his favourites, including chew toys and a squeaky fox! • 🍖 Some of his current food to help transition • 🦴 Treats – he LOVES treats • 🐾 His lead and harness • 📋 Vet and microchip paperwork You’ll have everything you need to welcome him into your life. ⸻ Ideal Home for Fred Fred would thrive in a home where he can be the centre of attention or share the space with another playful, friendly pet. We think he’d do best with: • Adults or families with older children • A home without babies or toddlers (just to help him feel more relaxed) • Someone who is home a lot or works from home • Access to a secure garden (he loves zoomies!) • A family ready to give him the love and time he deserves ⸻ Our Promise This is not something we take lightly. We want to find the right home, not just any home. Fred deserves to be cherished and understood. If you think you could be the right match for Fred, we would love to talk more and arrange a meet-and-greet. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have about Fred, his routine, or anything else. We’d also love the option to stay in touch occasionally, just to know how he’s doing if that’s okay with you.
