Description
š¾ Loving Home Wanted for Rufty ā Energetic, Loyal Collie x Huntaway (4 Years Old) š¾
It breaks our hearts to write this, but weāre looking for a very special new home for our beautiful boy, Rufty.
Rufty is a 4-year-old Collie x Huntaway ā full of energy, intelligence, and affection. He's a classic collie size - see him next to my friends dog Bo who is a german shepherd. Heās not neutered.
š§ Personality & Training:
Rufty is a fast learner and loves working with you ā especially if you have treats (heās very food-motivated)! He came to us from a farm where he hadnāt been taught much, but in the 4 months heās been with us, heās made amazing progress. Heās now responsive to commands, walks well on a lead when focused, and is eager to please.
Heās friendly, confident, and incredibly loving ā no aggression or anxiety.
š Socialisation:
Rufty is well-socialised and has lived with other dogs before, when he was on the farm he was in kennels over night with other dogs. He plays enthusiastically with other dogs, so he may need to be popped back on the lead if play gets a bit much ā he has never been aggressive but he can be a bit boisterous, but he will respond calmly to other dogsā boundaries. Heās met and played with our friendsā dog regularly and loves nothing more than a good chase.
On walks, he can get overexcited around other dogs ā not out of aggression, but from wanting to play. With training (and cheese or chicken!), he can stay calm and focused, but heāll need someone committed to continuing this work.
š Hobbies:
Rufty is fascinated by water ā heās started swimming a little, and we often take him to the beach or river. He stares longingly at the waves but hasnāt quite dared to jump in fully yet!
š” Ideal Home:
Weāre looking for an active, loving home where Rufty can continue to thrive. He would suit someone with experience of working breeds or someone outdoorsy whoās excited to continue his training journey. A garden would be a bonus, and heād love to live somewhere with access to green space or water.
Heās fine being left alone for short periods, especially if heās had good exercise, but thrives when heās included in daily life and routines. We take him everywhere with us, to cafes, pubs, in the car, on long hikes - he would much rather be with you than sat at home!
ā ļø Health & Transparency:
Rufty recently developed a slight limp, which the vet checked out. It has since improved, but he does occasionally hold the leg out to the side when standing still. He doesnāt seem in pain and still runs, walks, and plays happily. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, we canāt afford further vet investigations. We want to be fully transparent about this and are hoping to find someone who can give him the care and follow-up he deserves.
š Why We're Rehoming:
This decision is purely due to financial hardship and housing instability. Weāre having to move out of our flat and canāt take Rufty with us. We adore him, and itās important to us that he finds a forever home where heāll be safe, supported, and deeply loved.
We are not asking for any money ā the right home is what matters most.
