About Kali
Kali was found as a stray in Cyprus, and is currently in foster care in Nantwich, where she is adjusting well to home life. She is a loving and playful dog who enjoys both companionship and routine. She arrived from Cyprus at the end of March and has had a great introduction to life in the UK thanks to her foster family who have taken amazing care of her!
At home, Kali is a bit of a lazy bones! If she had her way, she’d stay in bed all day beside her favourite person with her belly in the air, looking for a tummy scratch and intermittent snuggles. That said, she’s always up for an adventure, especially if it involves getting covered in muddy water or wading through the lakes! She loves water and isn’t shy about getting her paws wet, so be prepared to take plenty of towels out and about with you.
Kali is very responsive to people she knows and communicates her needs clearly. If she needs to go outside to the toilet, she will often grab a toy and dash around the room to let someone know. She is housetrained and she’s gradually getting more accustomed to being in her crate too, although this is a work in progress. She also knows her name, responds to simple cues, and is highly food-motivated (unless it’s a carrot!), which makes her eager to engage and easy to train. She is however allergic to peanut butter, so that should not be used as a treat.
Kali is super human oriented and enjoys the company of people more than anything. She would be best suited to a home where someone is around most of the time, and she is currently working through separation anxiety, so adopters will need to support her with a consistent, gradual routine to help her feel secure when left alone.
Kali has enjoyed walks with other dogs, provided they are well-managed and give her space, but we’re looking for a home where she will be the only resident dog. Although she did share her kennel with another dog in Cyprus, she is more defensive of her space now she’s in the UK, and she would much prefer to live alone. She has previously lived alongside another dog in foster care but was kept separate indoors. She has tolerated walking together over time, but remains uncomfortable in close quarters.
Kali has not been properly tested with cats but has shown interest in chasing them when outdoors, so a cat-free home is recommended. Although she’s great with people, she’s had limited exposure to children so we’re looking for an adult home or one with older, dog-savvy children. She can be a bit more uncertain around men and is more relaxed in environments where people move calmly and speak quietly. Additionally, she’s not a fan of loud noises such as the hoover or the hairdryer.
Kali has learned to walk well on a variety of leads and harnesses and enjoys exploring her surroundings. She is generally calm on walks and walks to heel, only pulling if she spots something particularly interesting, like a squirrel!
Kali is playful with toys and enjoys soft toys and rubber balls. She will engage in tug games and willingly drop the toy for more play. She is also loves her food and is happy to work for it. If she has a high value chew, such as a pig ear, she may carry it away to a quiet space and avoid giving it up, so this will need to be managed carefully in the home.
Kali would suit a calm, structured household with access to a garden and adopters who are willing to support her ongoing training. With patience and consistency, she will continue to gain confidence and settle fully into home life, and she is going to bring so much joy and adventure into someone’s home.
