We've reached the difficult decision to look for another home for our one year old Wirehaired Dashchund boy. He's a wonderful dog and this decision is no fault of his own. He has been brought up alongside our 2 x young children who love him to pieces so is very used to small people. Saying this - he's still young and can be quite jumpy when playing, so this is something to bear in mind.
Gussy is a nervous boy and can be reactive to strangers. This being the case, he'd flourish in a calm environment, somewhere with lots of space for him to run around and potentially another doggy friend for company.
We recently attempted to rehome Gussy with a sleepover at a potential new owners' house. He displayed guarding behaviour of his crate and fear-based nipping. We had to pick him up a few hours later.
I strongly feel like he wasn't given enough time to adjust - he needed space and patience. He really will need an experienced home, who understand this and are ready to ease him in slowly.
When Gussy IS settled, he is a gentle, funny, cheeky boy who loves to play, loves his walks and loves to explore.
We won't re-home him unless it's a suitable match, with a new owner with the time and patience he needs to be his happiest self.
He's happiest running around the woods or jumping around with other dogs in the park - his recall is great and watching him run is a pure joy.
