Description
Billy is my 4 year old lab, who I have had since he was 6 months old. He is being rehomed through no fault of his own - my circumstances have changed and I work full time so he needs more company than I can give him.
He knows lots of commands and is a very clever boy - he loves to retrieve and search. He knows: sit, down, come/come here, stay, wait, ok, paw, place, in your bed, touch, chin, spin, jump, back, go away, leave it/drop it, up, off, get down, out, go on, this way, find it, fetch it, and probably much more than I forget to mention.
He does not enjoy being left so this will need building up gradually once he’s settled.
He does have some skin allergies we think as his groin and armpits have flared up a couple of times now, the vet thinks this is likely from environmental allergies rather than food due to the location of the reaction being on his undercarriage.
He is not a fussy eater and is very well mannered around food. He is currently on a raw fed diet though which has really helped with his anal glands.
He also has mild to moderate hip dysplasia and has recently started on pain meds (pardale tablet twice a day and meloxaid once a day, as well as yumove supplements daily). If you are able to commit to regular hydrotherapy sessions this would be a huge plus. He is supposed to do 2-3 short walks a day rather than one long one (max 30 mins at a time), and on lead mostly with any off lead time being very carefully managed to avoid zoomies etc. No fetch with a ball, and jumping in and out of the car or running up and down stairs is also to be avoided/carefully managed. He also can’t do flyball or agility anymore.
He is a very calm dog in the house and sleeps most of the day. He is also a fantastic pub dog and very relaxed in public places. He has lived with other dogs peacefully but would probably prefer to be the only pet, unless it is a very calm older dog that he would be living with. He may be ok to live with a cat but has not done so before so this would need to be introduced very carefully.
He loves the beach, anything involving water, and also the woods - he loves searching for sticks, the bigger the better, which he will carry along proudly with a lovely strut to show off. He is ball obsessed and loves his toys - especially those with fluff that he can disembowel. He also enjoys his chews and kongs etc.
He really is the best boy and I will only be considering 5 star homes for him. I think he would really suit a retired couple with a slower pace to life, who can provide lots of company and devotion. He deserves all the love in the world!
