Description
Sandie has flown from Cyprus to find her forever home after spending over a year in rescue . She is now in foster in Grimsby and this is what her foster mum says
Sandie is a lovely, friendly, confident girl. She's the only foster I've had who came straight off transport and walked down the road and into my house with no enticement needed and a waggy tail! She is about 3 years old and we believe her to be totally Belgian Malinois, although she is tall for the breed. She is pretty typical of the breed and it would be great if we could find breed experienced adopters, but not totally necessary. She was saved from the public shelter and spent a long time with Rights for Animals in Cyprus before coming to foster in the UK. Sweet girl likes to lean against you and cuddle. She is pretty chill at home (if her needs are met) - I would say she's a medium energy Right now, Sandie is rather overweight and this is holding her back. As she looses the weight, she will become more active. Right now we are doing several short walks a day as she doesn't have much stamina, then a couple of short play sessions in the garden, but again as she loses weight and gains stamina and muscle we'll be melding those into longer walks and i think she's going to make someone a great hiking, running and general adventure buddy! I also think she'd be great at some kind of doggy sport! ** On walks, she is confident, happy and curious. She does have a prey drive and although she generally walks very nicely on the lead once we reach the fields or woods, but she is strong when excited and when walking along roads with lots of noise so needs an adopters who can physically handle this as she is a big girl. She is currently very excited by other dogs and people that look too interesting!!! We are working on being a bit calmer and she has already started improving. I also think at this point a lot of it is lack of exposure and also pent up energy. Adopters will need to continue her training but we can suggest some amazing trainers to help and i will pass on my current training plan. She looooves her toys. She will happily play by herself but does love to play with you too! She enjoys football, tug of war and fetch - she has also been known to amuse herself with an empty lemonade bottle finched from the recycling! I personally think she'd be best in a home without children, or teenage children only, as she can get very enthusiastic when playing also her size means she could easily knock smaller children over without meaning to. Food wise she isn't currently very food motivated- shocker, I know! But this may change as we get to know her tastes!! She has shown no food aggression. I'd say no cats, just from the prey drive I've seen so far on walks. She would like to be an only dog, due to her excitement levels when around them needing work, but could potentially live with another dog in the future. She likes to potter in the garden, so would love to have a home with a garden but I don't think the size is a big issue as having a garden definitely shouldn't replace walks. She sleeps through the night and is generally calm at home whilst I work as long as walked first. Fine to be left, she just goes to her bed. She has been totally clean in the house, no accidents. No known health issues, she just needs to lose weight. Anyone looking for an adventure buddy?
