About Sissy
Sissy is a six month old pup who was brought to the shelter in Cyprus after being found as a stray. When she first arrived poor Sissy was absolutely terrified, unsure of the new environment and overwhelmed by the more confident puppies around her. Being a naturally submissive dog, she was often pushed aside and struggled to hold her own in a noisy kennel environment.
Thankfully, Sissy was given the opportunity to fly to a foster home in West Sussex at the beginning of May, and she has since been making steady but fantastic progress! Although she is still very much in the early stages of adjusting to her new life, she’s now starting to show glimpses of the loving, loyal companion she’s becoming and it’s wonderful to see her emerging from her shell.
Sissy is still cautious around unfamiliar people and can be jumpy when she’s not sure of a situation, but once she feels safe, her affectionate side starts to come out. She’s already formed a strong bond with her foster mum, which goes to show what a little kindness and consistency can do in a short space of time.
Sissy loves the comfort and routine of home life and is at her most relaxed when settled on her bed or on snuggling on the sofa. While she isn’t yet confident on walks, she is beginning to explore the outside world slowly. We’re therefore looking for a home with direct access to a secure garden where she can play, relax and continue to build her confidence at her own pace.
Sissy is very good with other dogs and would do particularly well in a home with a friendly, confident resident dog to guide and reassure her. She likes to play, but hasn’t yet found the perfect playmate (her foster pals are friendly, but don’t want to play with her). She enjoys the company of other dogs and learns a lot from simply being around them. A balanced canine companion would be a really beneficial for her transition to a companion lifestyle as she often looks to other dogs for reassurance and guidance when she’s not sure. That said, as long as she has a lot of human company during the day, she could likely cope without another resident dog.
Despite her shy nature, Sissy has a very cuddly and affectionate side that shines through once she feels safe. She’s incredibly loving and gentle, and she’s quickly charmed her foster family with her sweet nature and love of cuddles.
Sissy is looking for a calm, understanding home where her adopters are willing to take things slowly and help her thrive. With the right support, she will blossom into a devoted little member of the family. She’s such a special dog and we can’t wait for her to find her forever home.
