Hazel’s Story: Left Behind, Fighting to Survive
Hazel was once a beloved companion, her soft ginger ears framing a face full of gentle hope. But when her owners fled the war-torn streets of Ukraine, they made a heartbreaking choice—they left Hazel behind in an empty, cold house, forgotten and alone.
Days turned into nights with no food, no warmth, no comfort. Hazel huddled in the shadowed corners, her small body trembling from hunger and the biting cold. The once lively sparkle in her eyes faded to a quiet desperation. She howled softly into the empty rooms, a cry no one could hear, no one to answer.
Volunteers found her barely clinging to life, skin pressed to the icy floor, ribs showing beneath her thinning coat. The cold had seeped into her bones, and hunger gnawed at her fragile spirit. But even in her darkest hour, Hazel didn’t give up.
With trembling hands, the rescuers wrapped her in warm blankets, whispering promises of safety and love. Slowly, day by day, Hazel’s strength returned. The hunger pains lessened. Her ginger ears perked up at gentle voices and kind touches. She learned again what it meant to be cared for, to be safe.
Hazel is now a gentle soul, loving and calm. She is wonderful with children, cats, and other dogs, always ready to share her newfound joy. She is fully toilet trained, making her an easy and loving addition to any home.
Though the war forced her family to leave her behind, Hazel’s heart refused to break. She fought for every breath, every hopeful step toward a new life.
Now, Hazel looks for a forever home—someone who will never abandon her, someone who will fill her days with warmth and kindness, someone to finally be her family.
She survived the cold, the hunger, the silence. Now all she needs is love.
