Description
I’m looking for a calm, experienced home for my almost 2-year-old British Shorthair boy. He is healthy, neutered, and has been with me since he was a kitten.
(Mother with Monty on first picture and picture of dad on his own also).
He’s booked in for his vaccination 10/12/25 so cannot leave until after that.
He’s a beautiful, affectionate cat when he feels safe, but he struggles with sharing space and becomes stressed easily in busy environments.
He must be the only pet.
Living with another cat has made him anxious, and this stress has led to defensive behaviours such as hissing, swatting, opening bowels outside of the litter tray and occasional smacking. He can also react this way toward humans when overwhelmed, so he needs someone who understands cat body language and knows how to give a cat space when he asks for it. I will NOT be rehoming to just anybody. You need to understand cats/British shorthairs. If you want a super cwtchy lap cat, this is NOT the cat for you. He will snuggle to you on his OWN terms.
For this reason, he is not suitable for homes with young children (I have a 7 year old and he has smacked her a few times) I say ‘smacked’ because genuinely, Monty will warn you this way when he’s not happy. I can read him very well and know when he’s had enough. He will warn first and then smack and usually walks away from the situation before causing harm. If he is picked up and has no control, this is where he will usually bite/scram to get down. British shorthairs are known for not wanting to be held!! Please research!!
For this reason, he is not suitable for homes with young children.
He will thrive in a household that is:
• quiet and predictable
• adult-only
• patient and experienced with cats
• able to offer him a calm, secure environment where he can be the centre of attention on his own terms
When he’s comfortable, he’s a loyal, gentle companion who enjoys relaxing nearby, observing the world from a cosy spot (he loves the fire!!) and receiving affection at his pace. In the right home, without the stress of another cat, he has huge potential to settle and flourish.
If you can offer him a peaceful, understanding, one-cat home, I’d love to chat and make sure it’s the perfect match. Monty is to stay INDOORS ONLY. He has never been outdoors alone (only on a lead a handful of times) and is almost 2 years old. He would be quite docile if outdoors and would not trust him to be ok. He accidentally got out once and around 35 mins later was crying outside to get indoors. He would be ok with an outdoor cattery.
He currently lives at home with another cat but DOES NOT like. He’s very happy alone with a great human. He enjoys to lie at the bottom of your bed near your feet but is NOT a lap cat.
I’m happy for you to view Monty or FaceTime.
This decision hasn’t been an easy one but we have tried everything for the two cats to get along, after vet advice it was advised that we rehome Monty to suit himself, my family and the other cat. I’m a firm believer that Monty will thrive given all the information/advice provided. Myself annd my daughter would appreciate that the person who buys Monty, stays in contact for the first couple of weeks so we can ensure he’s settled well. I am selling for a non-negotiable price as I want to ensure the person buying Monty is serious and will look after him.
