Wire haired Dachshund

Description

Reluctantly looking to rehome our 1 yr old Pixie pup. Shes a miniature wire haired dachshund. From great stock. Fully house trained and great with children. She is good with recall. We live on a remote island surrounded by sheep, deer and other animals. Sadly, she has a very strong hunting instinct (these dogs were bred as badger hunters). She managed to get into our neighbours chicken coop and frightened the chickens so much 2 of them had to be put down, and now there is so much tension with our neighbour we feel we can only look to rehome her. We are continuing with the training (and have a beep collar which is proving very helpful) She is a great pup. She’s very content and good company, not really used to being left home alone, but when she is there’s no problem. She’s never been one to destroy things. Our children love her very much, and will be so sad to see her go. She’s not been neutered, only had one season so far. Will go to a good family home only, please get in touch for more info.

Pros

Extremely affectionate and loyal little dogs
Very intelligent Dachshunds learn quickly and know how to please
Fun-loving and playful by nature
Energetic and feisty Dachshunds like to be kept entertained

Cons

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own
Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints
They are prone to putting on too much weight if not given enough daily exercise
The breed is known to suffer from quite a few health concerns so vet bills can be high and why pet insurance is so important for anyone owning a Dachshund
