Description

Bear is a 4.5-year-old neutered male German Shepherd looking for an experienced, calm, and understanding home where he can thrive. Bear is a kind-natured, loyal, and affectionate dog who settles well in low-stress environments. He is used to home life, has stayed in kennels without issue, and is fully registered with a vet. He has received consistent, responsible care throughout his life and is fed a quality diet. Bear was diagnosed with hip dysplasia as a puppy, which has been well managed. He previously enjoyed hydrotherapy and injections and is now maintained comfortably on a daily spoon of PremierFlex to prevent stiffness. He remains active and enjoys appropriate exercise. Following a period of significant upheaval in his family home, including illness and bereavement, Bear became anxious and protective in a park-home setting. An incident involving barking and a nip occurred. No injury was sustained, no further action was taken, and both veterinary professionals and police confirmed Bear is not aggressive, but an anxious dog reacting to stress and an unsuitable environment. Bear is currently in foster care with us and has been working with a qualified dog behavioural specialist, showing around 80% improvement, with a further session scheduled for early January. He may bark initially when unfamiliar people arrive but settles quickly once they enter the home. This is being actively addressed with professional guidance. He is also very fond of sticks, and training is ongoing. Bear now needs a home that understands his breed, provides calm leadership, clear boundaries, and consistency. Bear would suit: ✔️ An experienced dog guardian (German Shepherd or similar breed experience preferred) ✔️ A calm, structured household ✔️ Space and appropriate daily exercise ✔️ Confident, consistent handling Bear’s situation is not his fault. With the right environment and guidance, he has every chance to be a wonderful, loyal companion. A reasonable rehoming fee applies to ensure Bear goes to a committed and responsible home. Full transparency and ongoing support will be provided to suitable enquiries.
