The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the oldest dog breeds and has an illustrious history that can be traced back several centuries. The Kennel Club did not recognise the Cavalier as a separate breed until 1944, and by the 1970s it had become one of the most popular dogs in Britain. Cavaliers are larger than their King Charles cousins and also have a longer, less snubby nose.
