Support & safety portalThe Utonagan was named after an old Chinook Indian tale meaning "spirit of the wolf." The first dogs were introduced to the UK in the late 1980s, and although the breed is still rare, it is gaining recognition in this country, albeit slowly. Bred to look like wolves but with the character and temperament of a domestic dog, the Utonagan is often used as a PAT therapy dog in schools, hospitals and hospices and is known to be very adaptable and intelligent.
