The Welsh Terrier, also known as Welshi, is one of Britain"s lesser known breeds and is still an endangered native breed today, with only around 380 dogs registered with the Kennel Club in 2015. They are happy, fun-loving, intelligent characters who are much calmer than many other terrier breeds. They are known to be particularly good with children and true to their working pedigree, which in short means they have a high prey drive.

However, they tend to be stubborn and require constant mental and physical stimulation, so they may be less suitable for first-time dog owners or families with very young children. They generally do well with children over six years old with proper supervision.
