Description
Moon is a medium sized girl who is approximately 5 years of age
Moon is originally from Romania. She is not up to date with her vaccinations but she is microchipped and spayed She is described by her owner “as being in perfect health”
Moon has lived in her current home for 4 years where she welcomes visitors and “is super friendly and loves to say hello” She has never shown any aggression or negative behaviour towards people within or outwith the home
Our volunteer who met with Moon and her owner for a face to face assessment states Moon was “perfect” when she entered the home and “very calm and respectful”. Moon approached her immediately and indicated she would appreciate a fuss! No negative behaviours were observed during the assessment
Moon is distrusting of other dogs, particularly within the home She has previously lived with another dog but it took around 6 months for them to be completely at ease and comfortable with each other.
Moon displayed resource guarding behaviour particularly around toys, doorways and of her owner She would growl and on occasion, lunge at the other dog, making contact but not drawing blood With time, patience and training (after input from a Behaviourist) Moon’s owner was able to successfully integrate the dogs and they lived happily alongside each other for 2 and a half years
With this is mind we feel Moon’s future home should ideally be dog free, she definitely likes to be “top dog” A committed home with a resident dog who has experience of this particular issue could also be considered The ability to fully separate the dogs and manage slow, controlled interactions over a prolonged period of time would be essential. Pawprints dedicated Behaviour Team would be available to offer ongoing support if needed A willingness to work with a Behaviourist if required would also be desired
Moon has lived with a cat previously but more recently has been observed to have a high prey drive and she will chase cats Therefore we recommend she does not live with cats or other small furries
Moon is described as being “great with children” She has not lived with any but she has spent time with a 10 month old and was very gentle She also enjoys meeting and being fussed over by any children she meets on walks We think as Moon has a friendly and loving nature she would enjoy being part of a family We would consider a forever family with respectful children aged 8 years and above Slow, sensible introductions would be essential as would supervised interactions at all times
Moon wears a collar and accepts a lead and harness As recommended with all Romanian rescues a 3 point harness should be worn by Moon at all times when leaving the house, particularly when she is in a new home and surroundings.
Moon walks well on the lead, she can be excitable initially but responds well to verbal prompts She also walks well on a 10ft longline which allows her a certain amount of freedom as she does run off if unleaded She loves meeting new people, exploring and visiting new places She is considered high energy by her owner so requires daily exercise.
Moon travels well in the car, preferring to be on the back seat rather than in boot She willingly gets in but does tend to pant a lot
Moon’s current owner has done a lot of training with her and our volunteer noted that she was “extremely smart and well mannered.”
Moon’s new home would need to be prepared to continue with this as she needs clear boundaries and is known to be a little stubborn!
Moon is toilet trained but not crate trained She has shown some destructive tendencies but this is due to her now being left alone for prolonged periods of time while her owner is at work This is not a regular occurrence but she has, at times, ripped blinds and part of the sofa Her owner recognises that this is due to Moon’s lack of physical exercise and mental stimulation on days she is in work and it is a major factor in her decision to rehome Moon.
Moon does not display separation anxiety when her owner leaves and for the majority of the time she is alone she tends to sleep
While Moon is accustomed to spending long periods of time without company this is not something that would her current owner or Pawprints would like to be a regular occurrence in her new home It is unavoidable at the moment due to a change in circumstances but the aim is for Moon to have significantly less alone time in her new home than she has currently.
Moon has access to the hallway and kitchen while left alone and tends to have access to the whole house including being allowed onto the bed when her owner is home.
Moon sleeps well overnight.
Moon’s owner has the following to say about her:
“Moon is the brightest little soul, she is strong minded and a happy go lucky girl who is incredibly loving, she loves a cuddle
She is easy going but high energy so she needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation as she is highly intelligent She doesnt like thunder, fireworks or heavy wind or rain she can get quite stressed from this. She is just an amazing girl and always brightens your day, she's quite vocal and loves to argue back, but she doesnt bark with the window or door. She is very well trained and a delight to work with. She will make anyone very happy, once you bond with her she is loyal to the end.”
