ABOUT MAPLE
Our beloved pet dog Maple (4 years old) is expecting a litter of 8-10 pups at the end of May.
We will upload photos of the pups when they arrive.
You can see Maple in photos 1-12, as she is now and as a puppy.
Maple is a perfect family pet. She is devoted, calm, intelligent, affectionate and well-behaved dog and will be the most excellent mum to her pups.
Working cocker spaniels make perfect family pets, therapy dogs, working dogs and/or playmates to older pets.
Maple is Kennel Club (KC) health tested and is certified clear for:
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd- PRA)
- Familial Nephropathy (FN)
- Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS)
The pups’ dad is 5th Generation Kennel Club registered (reg no: AS02827606) golden working cocker spaniel and is also KC health tested and certified clear for:
- Acral Mutilation Syndrome
- Degenerative Myelopathy
- Exercise-Induced Collapse
- Familial Nephropathy
- Glycogen Storage Disease VII (Phosphoructokinase deficiency)
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-PRCD)
Paperwork and certificates are all available to view, of course.
You can see the pup's dad in photos 13 and 14, with Maple.
Maple’s Mum is a devoted golden working cocker spaniel family pet and her dad is a KC registered red working cocker spaniel gun dog (see photos 15, 16 and 17 with her littermates), so we are expecting all of her pups to be golden or ginger in colour. Both of Maple’s parents are also fully health tested and clear.
Maple is the perfect blend of soppy and adoring family pet and an intelligent fun dog to teach tricks to or take on a walk. She needs about 1 hour of exercise a day, but happily spends all day out on a long walk when we fancy it.
Maple was toilet trained within 1-2 weeks of bringing her home and we will start toilet training her puppies at 6 weeks old so that job is already underway.
ABOUT THE PUPPIES
The litter is due at the end of May (Bank Holiday / half term week in Southampton) and will be ready to leave at 8-9 weeks (approximately 21st – 28th July).
Puppies will be raised in a home full of love, with 2 adults and 2 teenagers and plenty of visitors. They will be situated in our open plan kitchen-diner-living room, so be socialised to all the usual noises of a household (washing machine, hoover, doorbell, TV, radio, etc.). Hopefully we will have a sunny summer and they can make the most of being in our garden too.
We will get them used to visitors, take them out in a car, take them to see busy roads (safely nestled in a sling of course), and get them used to walking on a lead in our back garden. We aim to help Maple rear healthy, confident, obedient and affectionate dogs who will be a wonderful member of the family in your home. Whilst at least one adult will be in the house with them 24/7, we will ensure that they have periods of time alone in the kitchen or another room, so that they are used to being alone and do not develop separation anxiety. They will also be crate trained so that if you’d like your pup in a crate overnight whilst they are young, they will be happy and used to it.
They will be weaned and microchipped, de-flea’ed and wormed with panacure. We will discuss with each buyer whether you’d like first vaccinations included or not. (You may want to join your local vet’s ‘puppy plan’, which will include the initial course of vaccinations, and therefore not require the puppy to have their first vaccinations with us. We will discount the price of the puppy in this case to reflect this, and very happy to discuss it all so you can make the best decision for your circumstances).
We will not be docking tails.
We will be looking to confirm buyers after viewings, which will of course be in our home, with mum Maple. Viewings are welcome once the pups have learned to walk and we will encourage you to take your time to decide whether a pup is right for you.
A non-refundable deposit of £465 will be taken by 4 weeks (at the latest) to secure your pup, and we will provide a written contract and all relevant paperwork (health certificates, etc.) upon receipt of the deposit.
If you have decided on a name at that point, we will start training your pup to know their name and respond to it and we would invite you to bring some things from your home to leave with the pup so that they can get used to your scent.
They will leave with their favourite toy and blanket, a bag of puppy food, microchip paperwork, puppy information pack and a bellyful of love.
We strongly recommend that you purchase insurance for your pup as soon as you have paid the deposit.
ABOUT YOU
Cocker spaniels are devoted pets that thrive with love, attention and a daily walk. They do not cope well with being alone for 7-8 hours a day and so we are looking for homes where they will have some company throughout the day, or where they can go to doggy daycare if parents are out at work all day.
Upon paying a deposit, you will be added to a WhatsApp group with ourselves and the other puppies’ new owners. This will be a place where we send photos and videos of the puppies’ development and where you can ask any questions or seek advice from us or the other owners, or share pictures of your pup once you get them home. We will be available to offer support, advice, guidance and reassurance throughout your journey, if you need it.
What next?
If you have read this far and are considering joining our waiting list, we understand that is because you want to home a pup that is going to be healthy, happy, well-loved and a joyful addition to your family.
We want all of Maple’s puppies to go to homes where they will thrive; if you think one of our puppies is the right fit for you, please send us a message using the button above. There are a few short questions to answer and we will get back to you within 24 hours.
We will be happy to send frequent updates, photos and videos once the pups are born and to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you.
