Description
With heavy hearts, we are seeking a loving home for our dear cat, George. Our upcoming relocation to Australia, due to my partner's 4 year assignment presents significant challenges for George. George hates bangs and loud noises and we fear he’ll find the journey quite traumatic. Aside from this the regulations in our new location mandate that cats must be kept indoors at all times, a stark contrast to George's adventurous nature. He thrives on outdoor exploration and the freedom to roam, making this transition particularly difficult for him.  George holds a special place in our hearts as he came into our lives around 12 years ago as a rescue kitten from the Cats Protection League. Despite the odds, he overcame cat flu, which tragically claimed the lives of his littermates. George, is a true love bug. He adores his humans and, despite being 12 years old, maintains a youthful zest for play and mischief. Doing rollypollies on the floor, zoomies up and down the stairs - he reminds us everyday that he still feels he is a kitten! He delights in "assisting" us with gardening, darting around to chase leaves, and eagerly accompanies us to the shops, patiently waiting outside to escort us on our return. Whether it's cuddling our legs while we're cooking or lounging on the sofa, George's affection knows no bounds. He finds joy in simple pleasures like exploring boxes, snuggling in fresh laundry, and indulging in his favorite treat—catnip. George's heart is overflowing with love, and he never hesitates to express it with his purrs, which can rival the sound of a lawnmower in our living room. Throughout the years, George has been a resilient and beloved companion. Poor George also had a run in with a car when he was quite young, which resulted in the amputation of his tail.  However, whilst George is undeniably affectionate, his love can be on his own terms. He is quite a skittish cat and often is nervous of new people. George loves a fuss, but depending on his mood, can quickly become overstimulated with excessive petting, which sometimes leads to playful nipping. There are also specific areas on his body where he prefers not to be touched, and he is fearful of hands moving above his head or touching his tailless back and hates his stomach being touched. Moreover, poor George's meows are limited, often amounting to little more than a squeak! All that said, George is generally well and healthy and over his 12 years has had very few trips to the vet, only for routine check-ups and care. George has a tough stomach and will eat anything and everything you put in front of him gladly!  Due to George's skittish nature, and occasional nipping we don’t believe he would thrive in a busy household or with young children. While he enjoys the company of our neighbours cats, his experience with cohabiting with another cat has been mixed. Last year, when we welcomed a second cat from Cyprus into our home, their relationship didn't quite blossom as we had hoped. Although they coexist peacefully, they never formed the close bond that George shares with our neighbour's' cats. We speculate that perhaps George's unique traits, such as his taillessness and limited vocalisations, may have made it challenging for the pair to communicate. Whilst Cleo largely ignores George, her confidence seems to intimidate him and he does hiss or hesitate to walk past her on occasion.  Considering George's potential confusion and anxiety during the adjustment period in a new home, we believe he may thrive best as the sole animal in the household or with a perhaps an older feline friend. This would provide him with the comfort and security he needs to acclimate to his new surroundings without the added stress of interacting with other animals. We are deeply grateful for any support or assistance you can offer during this challenging time. Our priority is to find the best possible home for George, one where he will be cherished and cared for. Were aware George has some complex needs, his age and lack of tail might limit his appeal. We would love to keep George until the day we leave, but our hope is by starting the search for his forever home now, we can limit the chance of him having to go to a rescue centre when we move.  We also hope that we can help with multiple visits to meet George and be on hand to assist in his acclimatising of a new home.  We absolutely adore our little ginger nut - and want to find a warming loving and experienced home for his golden years.
