💛 Her Story
Grace – lovingly called Gracie – was rescued from a public shelter and given the chance to start again.
She is an elegant, deeply sensitive girl with a gentle nature and deeply bonded to her chosen person. Like many dogs with a shelter past, she initially went into shutdown in her new home — quietly observing, trying to make sense of everything around her.
Grace was adopted recently and has shown herself to be affectionate and devoted within her home. However, she has struggled in a household where one family member has mobility challenges. As she began to process her new environment, her fear started to surface more clearly. Gracie can feel overwhelmed by sudden movements, unpredictability or situations she does not yet understand.
In those moments when she feels unsure or unable to create distance, she may react defensively — not out of aggression, but out of fear and insecurity.
This does not make her a ‘bad’ dog — but it does mean she needs a very specific, suitable home where she can feel secure and understood.
Due to urgent family circumstances, her current adopters are sadly unable to continue her rehabilitation journey. This decision has been made with care and honesty, and always with Gracie’s best interest at heart.
🌸 Personality & Temperament
Gracie is a very soft, emotional dog who forms deep bonds once she feels safe.
She has already shown that she is capable of attachment — she has begun to bond with her main caregiver and shows small, meaningful moments of connection, such as greeting her and engaging in gentle play.
At the same time, she remains unsure about close contact and does not actively seek physical interaction. On occasion, she may allow very brief touch on her own terms, but this is still fragile and developing.
These early signals are encouraging, but it is important to understand that trust with Gracie is still in its very first stages and will need to be built slowly and patiently.
She is highly sensitive to her surroundings and responds best to calm, predictable companionship. She communicates honestly when something feels too much for her, and benefits from people who understand and respect those signals.
She lives with another dog and clearly found comfort in that relationship, often orienting herself through the other dog. A calm, stable canine companion could therefore be a great support in helping her build confidence — although this is not essential in the right home.
Grace also bonds strongly to her main caregiver and shows beautiful loyalty and affection. She enjoys calm companionship and thrives when she understands the structure around her.
She enjoys activity, playing with the other dog, outdoor time in the garden and exploring.
She can be nervous with unfamiliar people and may become overprotective if she feels unsure. Clear leadership and calm, confident handling are essential.
🏡 Ideal Home
Gracie is looking for a calm, structured and understanding home where she can continue to build trust at her own pace.
• Preferably someone with experience of sensitive or protective breeds
She needs predictable routines and people who understand that nervous dogs require patience, boundaries and reassurance — not chaos.
• No young children (14+)
• No elderly or vulnerable individuals
• Quiet household with low levels of unpredictability
• Secure, dog-proof garden essential
• A calm, balanced resident dog could be beneficial but is not required
She needs people who understand that sensitive rescue dogs require time, patience and gentle guidance — not pressure or expectations.
Calm, predictable handling and emotional stability are key to helping Gracie feel safe.
🌟 Why Consider Grace?
In the right home, Grace is loving, intelligent and deeply devoted. She is not suitable for every household — but in the correct environment, she will flourish.
Gracie is not a dog who will immediately ask for attention — but she is a dog with a deep emotional capacity.
Dogs like Gracie, when given the time and understanding they need, often form incredibly strong and meaningful bonds with their people.
The kind of bond that is built slowly, on trust, and is all the more special because of it.
She enjoys gentle play and has already shown glimpses of the loving companion she can become once she feels safe.
