Description

Long winded but please read. This is zeus, my 1 year old male, intact rottweiler. I'm going to be fully transparent for the reason of rehoming him. Around March I noticed some mobility issues of knuckling, bending down onto the back of his wrists, slipping on the wood flooring, incoordination when running and falling over, not being able to walk on concrete because he would take the skin off the tops of his paws and grind nails down all to the point of bleeding. He was referred to neurology and seen by chestergates vets on the 14th August. Inbetween the vet appointments i paid to have tests done to see if it was genetic. It wasn't. An MRI scan shown a degenerative spinal cord the vet said he was born with which is practically being compressed due to fluid building up. One of his littermate back legs became paralysed at 6months also. My insurance is 5k and the MRI appointment was £3,900. Surgery is £2.5k-£5k to relieve the fluid that is building up. I don't have it and my insurance is nearly maxed out. He is currently on steroids to reduce swelling and increase his mobility which he seams to be doing better with. This might seam cruel but my initial thought was to have him PTS. Simply because the surgery isn't guaranteed to work. Risk of being worse or relapsing in 1-3 years and needing surgery again and the steroids aren't a cure and just a temporary "fix". But they won't let me do the right thing because his mobility isn't bad enough even though he will eventually become paralysed. It's cruel knowing the outcome. My circumstances change alot in September and work full time and a single parent and doing the best i can for him. I don't want him on his own confined to a crate knowing he is on borrowed time. So I want to give him the best chance of someone giving him the love and time he deserves with whatever time he has left or even a chance with the surgery if you can. He's such a beautiful character and cheeky boy and I love his face so much. The steroids are £27 a month as a monthly dosage. He's raw fed on prime raw complete. Nearly 40 kilos. Needs his second lot of vaccines and deworming. These things have slipped my mind with dealing with all of this with him at the moment trying to find an answer. I know it's cheeky to ask for a price but I have spread myself thin financially with tests, vets and excess payments and not wanting him to get in the wrong hands. Please no hate messages, just someone who would happily take him on knowing what the outcome would eventually be but love him and give him your time for the rest of his life. He will come with his large crate and will go to bed when you say bedtime and been with my 9 year old since we got him from a pup. Thank you. P.s. no idea why it's adding female puppy at the bottom. He did come from a big litter of around 8 pups.
