Description

Cooper is my incredible 3 year old intact male miniature dachshund. He’s long haired and shaded red with the most beautiful chocolate brown eyes. Both of Coopers parents were KC registered and show dogs however Cooper is not KC as was from an unplanned litter. He currently lives with a male chihuahua, a cat, teenagers, young children and a baby. He’s fantastic with them all. The baby thinks he’s the funniest little character and laughs at him all the time. He’s fully vaccinated, wormed and flea treated regularly. He’s used to being washed and having his nails trimmed, loves a brush and doesn’t mind the groomers. In the 3 years I’ve had him he’s had one trip to the vets for a cat scratch (he’s very inquisitive) and is a picture of health. He’ll eat pretty much any food you offer him but often takes his biscuits to bed to eat. Loves a raw carrot when you’re preparing dinner - especially if you cut them into catchable pieces. When you’re in the kitchen you have to watch out for him as he’ll sit under your feet in the hope of a scrap of human food. He absolutely loves the outdoors, snow, wind, rain won’t stop him - he just comes home absolutely soaked. He’s good off lead and has a fantastic recall, his only downside is he’s too trusting of other dogs out and about and often needs calling back. In the summer months he likes to sunbathe but often needs to be reminded to get a drink - he forgets he’s long haired! He sits, gives paw, stays the majority of the time (unless the treat is too good to resist) and will catch treats thrown to him. He loves fetch and his absolute favourite toy is a squeaky ball. He’s crate trained so sleeps in a crate on an evening and when we go out. He knows the command “bed” so getting him into the crate is no issue. When indoors he’ll simply sit on the sofa with you or in front of the fire if you have one. Loves to be fussed - he’s so very loving and affectionate. Cooper will unfortunately territory mark if left alone outside of his crate, I don’t know if this could be a dominance thing as I have an old male chihuahua (he’s castrated) and he’s worse if there is a female about. This is definitely only a marking issue as he will spin and bark at a door to go out for the toilet then barks to come back in so castration will probably fix this. He also doesn’t travel well in the car, he loves going for long walks but gets travel sick and cries so needs calming tablets in advance if you plan to travel more than 20 minutes ish. He can also jump some height for a dachshund - so from experience don’t leave food on the table unattended - he’s so cheeky. These are his only bad points but I feel it’s important to be honest to find him the best home possible. Cooper needs to go to a home where someone is home most of the day, he loves people and gets bad separation anxiety if left alone for too long - this being said he will sleep in his crate without a peep if he knows you’re still in the house. I will not re home him to just anyone, I’d like to see pictures of where he’ll live, know how often he’ll be left alone, whether there are other pets etc in the house, if there are children for him to love on and it would be a bonus if we could maybe meet up at parks etc and see him occasionally but I understand this isn’t always possible. Cooper is looking for a new home due to no fault of his own, I simply don’t have time to spend with him and it’s awful to see him look so sad. I want him to have the best life possible.
