Description
Mabel is just under 1 year old and was born on the 1st of November 2024.
We have had Mabel since collection from her breeder at 8 weeks old - i am still in contact with breeder and have pictures of her mother and father.
Mabel has been the best little dog, she loves small children (toddlers are her Favourite as the blame is split in half!) She would play all day long with kids, never been known to nip or bite but as a puppy she can still be mouthy! If playing isn’t an option, or it’s raining you will find Mabel either on a couch or burrowed under a duvet. She loves a snuggle.
Typical to the breed, she is your own personal door bell, she makes her (massive to her) presence known and she will worn off all intruders - shadow included!
Mabel has been running on a farm with our other dogs and plays away fine however on walks we keep her on a lead because she will bark at other dogs. Not aggressively, just warning them of her massive attitude packed into a little body.
Mabel doesn’t sleep with us, we sleep with her. She will use most of the bed to her advantage but if she needs moving she’s not possessive and won’t growl. She will however judge you.
Unfortunately things haven’t worked out for Mabel, she isn’t suited to this life with us. We are always outdoors and in all weathers working with livestock and she just doesn’t enjoy it. We’ve tried taking her out with our other dogs but her barking winds up the cattle and sheep making them more dangerous so she is kept inside. This is becoming more and more often as we get busier, so I think it’s only fair to her that I find her the best and proper home and family.
Mabel is loyal and loving, don’t get me wrong she is a typical Dachshund and is reactive to the wind. But if you can conquer that, she really is worth her tiny weight in gold.
She isn’t fully housetrained yet and can have an excited dribble around new surroundings or new people which is to be expected, but with patience she’ll get there. Remember she’s a Dachshund and if they don’t feel like having a wee outside, they will wait and look you in the eye doing it in the house!
If you’ve read this far she may be the dog for you. This is a heartbreaking choice and my kids will be devastated but her needs must come first and I fear I’m being selfish keeping her and another family are missing out.
As I say she’s a brilliant dog, just not suited to the busy farm life. She has a price because I’d like her to go to the best home, but also to put some pennies in the children’s bank accounts for the future as Mabel really was their doggy. I paid £1,200 in December for her.
Please give her a think about if you have a cosy home, a loving family, feral children and most importantly she says at least a king size bed with a mattress topper, but we don’t need to worry about that one too much! Just a loving, patient family/person as I don’t want her being passed around any more than this time. She really does bond with her people, and having to make this decision for her to go through it once is hard enough.
Thank you for your time.
