DescriptionAkira is a 5YO German Shepherd Mix. He hasn't been neutered. He is microchipped. He currently lives with an ederly man who is struggling to meet the needs of Akira, he cannot walk him due to declining health and cannot afford the ongoing care that Akira needs (walking and training)
Akira is reactive to dogs, small animals, children and some people. Akira has been working with a trainer to help with his reactivity, but unfortunately is struggling to progress further with his training as his needs cannot be met at home. Akira waits around for his walker who is currently walking him for free but is struggling to keep up with Akira's needs and training.
Akira needs a home where everyone can be consistent, provide him with physical and mental stimulation to help work through his behaviour problems. Like all Shepherds, he is incredibly loyal and loving. It would take a couple of controlled introductions for Akira to build up trust with a new owner before taking him on.
He needs to be in a child, pet free and quiet home with more space than what he currently has.
He is at risk of being euthanised if we cannot find him a new home, as his owner cannot afford the cost of continued training and walks, which will leave Akira miserable with a low quality of life.
The situation is quite complex and unique, so I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about him.
He is house trained, loves to play but is suspicious of new people (not unusual for the breed) he is currently walked on a head halti and muzzle due to his reactivity when walking outside.
He loves to learn and would benefit from an owner who has experience with the breed. Do not enquire if you're looking for a guard dog or a dog to show off. Akira needs a loving home and to be shown compassion and understanding.
