According to current research, environmental factors are thought to contribute to around 60-80% of the variability in hip dysplasia development, meaning that while genetics play a significant role, environmental factors such as traction in the whelping pen whilst nursing, can significantly influence the likelihood of developing hip dysplasia.
We make sure that there is always enough traction provided to avoid over extension of the joint and tissues during the crucial first weeks of development
