Description
I DO NOT WANT BENJI GOING TO A HOME WITH OTHER DOGS/CATS OR YOUNG CHILDREN/BABIES. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION.
We are unfortunately needing to find a loving home for Benji. Benji is a wirehaired dachshund, aged 10 months old, turning 1 on the 11th December (as far as I'm aware/have worked out).
We bought him from pets4homes 3 weeks ago, and have really, truly tried to settle him in, but unfortunately, it seems he would be better as the only dog in the home.
Benji is a truly lovely dog on his own, but he does have some difficulties in our home, as we have other dogs and cats already (our priority). The issues seem to be around possessiveness over food and toys. He is also overly obsessed with our female dog, and it is unfair on her as he constantly tries to mount her and gets in her face all day (she's a lot bigger than him, and thankfully has the patience of a saint, bless her).
** We have had two occasions when my husband has had to get between our male dog and break up fights when Benji has gone for him. Once with a toy and then again this evening when Benji tried to take our other dogs food out of his bowl. This led to Benji attacking our other dog when he growled at him as a warning. My husband was bitten as a result when trying to stop Benji.
I don't want this to be a reason to stop Benji being rehomed, more as a warning. Due to this, I will not let Benji go to a home with any other animals. I don't trust Benji around our dogs or cats due to what has happened. I want Benji to find his forever home and I don't think him going to a home with other animals is a fair start for him. I also don't want him going to a home with young children, as I worry that, if one was to drop food/a toy he wanted, he may potentially get aggressive. Older children that understand to let a toy or food go after it's been dropped would be OK, but I just don't want any risks as I would feel responsible.
He is great out on a walk and is friendly around other dogs, it's mainly the toys/food in a confined space that worries me. My family have previous trauma from when we used to foster dogs, which is why I think it's so important to be honest about the situation.
He does need attention, but so does any dog. He does love a good fuss. He can be so lovely and affectionate.
If you need any more information, do ask. I'm happy to answer anything you need to know.
I'm asking for what I paid for him.
